Privacy policy
Last updated 7 October 2026. Plain English. Every sentence here describes what the software actually does.
The short version.
We keep only what we need to change your name, and we never sell it, read your email, keep passwords or handle your Social Security number.
Photos of your certificate and ID, and the filled forms, are deleted 30 days after your last step, or at once when you press Delete.
Email us any time to see, fix or delete your data, wherever in the US you live.
Who we are
Renamery is a small private US service run by The Pocket App Company, Chicago, Illinois: one person with the help of AI software. "We" on this page means Renamery and The Pocket App Company.
What we collect, and why
- Your email address. To sign you in (a link or code, never a password) and to send you notes about what needs you. When we email a request to a company, you are copied and the company's reply goes to you, so the company sees this address. After we fax or post a request, we email you a copy.
- Your old and new name, marriage or divorce, its date, the state you live in and the state of the event, whether you are a US citizen, how many certified copies you have, and whether you have a passport (and roughly when it was issued). To plan the steps and write the letters.
- The companies and agencies you pick, and any account or member numbers you type. So each letter reaches the right account.
- Your postal address, phone number and a drawn signature, and the time you agreed to sign electronically. Put on the letters and forms that go out in your name.
- Details that government forms ask for, such as date and place of birth, your parents' names, your county, and a license or passport number. Only to fill in those forms for you to check and sign.
- Photos or scans of your marriage certificate or divorce decree and your ID, and the forms we fill in. Kept in a private folder and attached only to the requests that need them.
- Your progress. Which steps are done, sent, accepted or turned down, any short note you add, a record of each letter we sent (where to, when, how many pages), and the "Right now" activity list.
- Questions you ask about your plan, and the answers. So you can see them again and we can improve answers.
- Calls we make for you (see below): which company, its number, your phone number, the phone-menu words we heard and the keys we pressed, and when the call started and ended.
- Payment status: whether you paid, how much, and when. Your card details go to Stripe, never to us.
- When you agreed to the disclaimer and terms at the start.
We do not use advertising trackers or sell advertising.
Things you can choose to use
- Bank link (Plaid). Plaid shows us the names of the merchants you pay, for up to two years back, so we can suggest accounts you forgot. We keep the merchant names, how many times each charged you, the date each was last seen, and the names and types of your bank accounts. The bank connection is removed the same moment, and the rest of the transaction data is thrown away; no balances or amounts are kept. Health-related merchants are filtered out. Plaid's own privacy policy applies to Plaid.
- Credit report. If you upload your own credit report, the AI reads the lender names out of it and the file is deleted right after. Only the company names are kept.
- "Call for me". We call the company from our number, listen to its phone menu to press the right keys, and wait on hold. A computer voice, clearly automated, says our name and number, and tells the person who answers that it is connecting the account holder. We then ring you, and you do the talking. The company's side of the call is turned into text by our phone provider only so we can find our way through the menu. We keep the menu words and the keys we pressed. We do not keep anything a person says, and we do not record what you and the company say to each other. If your voicemail answers, we hang up and leave no message.
- Sending from your own email address (Gmail, Outlook or iCloud Mail). If you connect it, you give us send-only permission: we can send your letters from your address, and they appear in your Sent folder. We cannot read, search or delete your mail. You can take the permission back at any time in your Google or Microsoft account settings. For iCloud Mail there is no send-only permission to grant, so you give us an app-specific password (a separate password Apple makes for one app, never your Apple Account password); we keep it encrypted, use it only to send, delete it when you disconnect, and you can revoke it at account.apple.com at any time. If you do not connect it, "Send from my email" simply opens your own mail app with the letter ready, and you press Send.
- Browser add-on. The add-on works in your own browser, on company websites where you are already signed in. It fills in your new name and, if you turn on autopilot, presses Save for you. It never works on government (.gov) websites. It never sees, asks for or stores your passwords; you sign in to each site yourself.
Google user data
This part applies only if you press "Connect Gmail". It is optional; everything works without it.
- What we ask Google for. Your email address, so we know which mailbox is connected, and one permission: to send email as you (Google calls it
gmail.send). We ask for nothing else. - What we use it for. Only to send the name-change letters in your plan, each to the company it is addressed to, from your own address, so the company sees the request comes from its customer. You can open and read every letter in your plan before its send date, and each sent letter appears in your Gmail Sent folder.
- What we cannot and do not do. We cannot read, list, search or delete your mail, see your contacts, or see your drafts. The permission does not allow it, and we never ask for more.
- What we keep. Your Gmail address and the key Google gives us for sending, stored encrypted. We keep a record of each letter we sent for you (to whom, when, and the letter itself), as for every other way of sending.
- Who we share it with. Nobody. We do not sell Google user data, do not use it for advertising, and do not use it to train AI models. No person at Renamery reads it, except with your permission to fix a problem you report, or where the law requires it.
- How to stop. Open "Send from my email automatically" in your plan's menu and press Disconnect, or remove Renamery at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Disconnecting cancels the permission at Google and deletes the stored key. Deleting your last case does the same.
Renamery's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
What we never do
- Sell or rent your information, or share it for advertising.
- Read your email. (The optional Gmail, Outlook or iCloud Mail connection is send-only.)
- Ask for, see or store a password to any of your accounts.
- Ask for, see or store your Social Security number. Where an agency needs it, you write it on that agency's form yourself. Our forms refuse anything shaped like one.
- Press anything on a government website, or pay a government fee for you.
- Let the AI provider train its models on your data.
Who else handles your data
- The companies and agencies you ask us to write to receive your letter, your certificate and, where they require it, your ID.
- Service providers that run the software for us, each seeing only what its job needs:
- Supabase: database, sign-in and file storage, in the United States.
- Render: web hosting.
- Resend: sending email.
- Telnyx: fax and phone calls, including turning the phone menu into text.
- Lob: printing and posting letters to companies that accept only mail.
- Stripe: payment.
- Plaid: the bank link, only if you choose it.
- Anthropic: the AI that researches companies, reads credit reports and answers your questions. It does not train on your data.
- Google, Microsoft or Apple: only if you connect your email to send from it.
- Legal requests. We keep as little as possible, so there is little to hand over. We share data only when the law requires it, and we tell you unless the law forbids that.
How long we keep it
- Photos, scans and filled forms are deleted 30 days after your last step is done, or at once when you delete your case.
- Credit report files are deleted as soon as the company names are read.
- Everything else about your case (names, address, signature, plan, progress, letters sent, calls) stays while your case exists, so you can look back at it. It is deleted when you press "Delete this name change and my photos".
- What stays after you delete:
- What each company answered: the company, how the request was sent, accepted or turned down, how many days it took, and any short note you typed. This helps the next person's plan. It is no longer linked to your case, and it holds no name, address or document.
- Your sign-in account (your email address), the questions you asked, and the list of companies we looked up for you.
- Letters already sent to companies cannot be called back; each company keeps them under its own rules.
How we protect it
- Everything travels encrypted (HTTPS).
- Row-level security in the database: a signed-in person can read only their own case.
- Files sit in private storage, in a folder only you and our sending job can read.
- The server key that sends letters is never in your browser. Only the one person who runs Renamery can see cases, and only to run and fix the service.
- No system is perfectly safe. If your data is ever exposed, we will tell you promptly.
Your rights
Wherever you live in the US, you can ask us to:
- show you, or send you a copy of, the data we hold about you;
- correct it (most of it you can change yourself on your plan page);
- delete it.
Email support@renamery.com. We answer within 7 days and complete deletion within 7 days. Some state laws (for example in California, Colorado, Virginia and others) give these rights in law; we give them to everyone. We never sell or "share" data for advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
Children
Renamery is for adults 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data about anyone younger. If you think a child has used it, email us and we delete the case.
Changes to this policy
If this page changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes and we email you before the change applies to you.
